2010 definitely had its share of celebrity scandals. From two-timing husbands to Mel Gibson's infamous rant and that video of Miley Cyrus, we recap some of the biggest star scandals of the year.
Sandra Bullock's split
One minute Sandra Bullock was having the time of her life – she had picked up almost every award she could (including an Oscar) for her turn in The Blind Side, she was in the process of adopting a young boy from New Orleans, and she gushed at every turn about how wonderful her husband was. Until Jesse
James turned out to be having numerous affairs with heavily-tattooed women. We think we were only slightly less shocked than Sandra was. The two have since divorced, and Sandra continued the adoption of little Louis as a single mother.
Mel Gibson goes crazy
In June, Mel Gibson's former girlfriend – and the mother of his daughter Lucia – filed a restraining order against the Edge of Darkness actor. As their custody battle grew more bitter, allegations of domestic violence emerged, with Oksana accusing Mel of punching her in the face. Along with the allegations, tapes of Mel ranting at Oksana were leaked. The contents of the tapes were explicit, with Mel saying things like, "You look like a f***ing pig in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of n***ers, it will be your fault." Since the case rumours of prostitutes, extortion and tampering with evidence have emerged – and the case got very sordid very quickly.
Miley Cyrus... in general
She went from Disney sweetheart to wild child in 0.6 seconds flat. Former Hannah Montana heroine Miley shed her cutesy image and adopted a much raunchier one with the release of her latest album Can't Be Tamed. This year she's been pictured without underwear, been snapped giving her Last Song director a lapdance and was recently filmed smoking a bong containing apparently legal hallucinogenic herb salvia. The general consensus in the land of celebrity journos? Miley needs to get her act together before she goes the same way as our next star...
Lindsay Lohan's legal troubles
In May, Lindsay skipped out on a court-mandated probation hearing – allegedly because her passport had been stolen while she was "working" at the Cannes Film Festival. At a probation hearing in July, the judge determined Lindsay had violated her probation and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a 90-day inpatient rehab programme. She was released after serving 14 days in prison, and only 23 days in rehab. Less than three weeks later, Lohan failed a drug test and was sent back to jail. After posting $300,000 bail she was released and fitted with a SCRAM bracelet. A few days later she voluntarily entered a rehab centre, and during a hearing in October the judge ordered Lohan to remain there until 3 January 2011. Whew. All reports out of the Betty Ford Center point to Lohan's recovery – she's over 100 days sober.
