ALL STAR PARTY

Weaves,  stilettos and colourful double-collar shirts come off as Jozi prepares for a casual night out this Thursday, Dec 09 at the Change Room in Soweto to bid farewell to amagoduka (migrant workers) and to  kickstart the Railway To Life campaign, the charitable brainchild of Lupi Ngcayisa which annually collects thousands of school shoes around the country for the benefit of disadvantaged children.

In what is deemed as an evening of All Stars kasi style , guests are encouraged to put on their sneakers (which are always banned at these clubs) and come in their casual gear to dance to the tuneful sounds of an impressive line-up of A list DJs, including DJ Ganyani, DJ Nutty, DJ Naves, Naked DJ and Amon Mokoena, all this for only R60 a pop, whose proceeds will go towards the Railway To Life campaign.

“Since most of us are amagoduka, this is most probably the last time we get to indulge in Jozi’s notorious parties  before we crawl back to our villages. Knowing how Jozi people LOVE  to have fun  I thought why not combine this  with the Railway To Life. Have fun with a purpose and we’re not really asking much from people,” says Lupi Ngcayisa, social entrepreneur.

The Railway To Life campaign began only two years ago when Ngcayisa declared on the radio waves that he no longer wanted gifts for his birthday, but for people to gift him with pairs of school shoes that he would donate to select schools.

“To my amazement, the response was so overwhelming that we collected 16 600 pairs of brand new school shoes in the  first year and from then on the numbers have grown and so many members of the greater community and corporate South Africa  have come on board,” Im most proud to announce that through the generosity of South African 44 300 pairs of school shoes have been distributed to date. adds Ngcayisa.

The All-Stars party at the Change Room is set to jolt people’s memories about the campaign that’s going to roll out towards the end of December. Again, on his birthday this December 30, Ngcayisa will encourage people to continue in the spirit of giving and donate much needed school shoes, socks, shirts etc to the underprivileged children
