There are some things you just never forget. Like actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman hubby Chris Martin naming their babies Apple and Moses. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie went with Pax. Dan Cortese named his spawn Tabooger. Jason Lee saddled his kid with Pilot Inspektor, and Rob Morrow tagged his boy Tu (sound it out). All the baby names screamed for attention and, at the very least, a reality check.
Now, however, it looks like Hollywood is saying goodbye to all that. Along with the baby-making uptick in Tinseltown, celebrity parents are returning to good, old-fashioned classic American names.
Now, however, it looks like Hollywood is saying goodbye to all that. Along with the baby-making uptick in Tinseltown, celebrity parents are returning to good, old-fashioned classic American names.
Among the recent stars who returned to normal names are John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Owen Wilson and Minnie Driver. Wilson, who shocked us all with the triple threat of having a girlfriend, getting her pregnant and having a baby all announced within the same week, named his son Robert Ford. While Wilson hasn't explained the choice, the name reminds any history buff of the outlaw who killed Jesse James in 1882. It doesn't get much more old school than naming your kid after a Western gunslinger.
Travolta, perhaps steering clear of odd names in the interest of exuding normalcy, settled on the sturdy, wholesome name of Benjamin. Driver, meanwhile, selected the stout-sounding aristocratic pick of Henry (Old German for "home ruler"). Even Aussie couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban chose the pretty-prissy name of Faith Margaret, in honor Kidman's grandmother.
We're still talking about Hollywood, though, and after "struggling" to find a name for their first born, pretty pair Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom picked Flynn. At least that comes from the time-tested and approved list of old Hollywood names. But someone should have clued Bloom and Kerr into something important -- Errol Flynn's real name was Leslie. And that's a boy's name you won't forget. Just saying.
