Ballet dancers, the Bang Bang Club, a childhood favourite and the return of the franchises. Here's our list of movies we're simply dying to see in 2011.
Please note that release dates aren't set in stone and are subject to change.
Tangled - 28 January
Disney's latest princess is none other than the beloved Rapunzel - although the heroine in Tangled is no wilting flower. After the kingdom's greatest thief stumbles into her tower, Rapunzel
takes him hostage. He strikes a deal with Rapunzel's captor, and the two set off on a hair-raising adventure. The animation looks superb.
Black Swan - 4 February
This has earned rave reviews overseas, but it's only hitting our shores in February. Natalie Portman stars in the Darren Aronofsky-helmed psychological thriller of a prima ballerina caught in competition with a younger rival, played by Mila Kunis.
The King's Speech - 11 February
This film is tipped to win big this awards' season - and after watching the trailer it's easy to see why. After the sudden death of his father and the scandalous abdication of his brother, Bertie (Colin Firth) is crowned King George VI. He comes to the throne on the brink of World War II, and must overcome his debilitating speech impediment to win over the hearts and trust of Britain.
127 Hours - 18 February
The latest from Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, this film tells the story of a mountain climber (played by James Franco) who becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah, and must resort to desperate measures in order to survive. Based on a true story and - from what we've seen - looks spectacular.
Life, Above All - 18 February
A local film that made waves at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2010, Life, Above All is described as an "emotional and universal drama about a young girl who fights the fear and shame that have poisoned her community". The film earned a 10-minute standing ovation at Cannes.
Water for Elephants - 15 April
Based on the critically-acclaimed novel, Water for Elephants tells the story of a veterinary student who drops out of university and joins a travelling circus as their vet. We're most excited about the casting - Oscar-winners Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz are joined by Twilight Saga hunk Robert Pattinson.
The Bang Bang Club - 29 April
This film is based on the true-life experiences of four combat photographers - the iconic Bang Bang Club - who worked to capture the final days of apartheid in South Africa. Sure, we're not one hundred percent sold on the casting but it will be cool to see what they do with this.
Winnie the Pooh - 13 May
Everybody's favourite silly old bear returns to the big screen - and Disney have stayed as true to the original animation as they possibly can. The film will revolve around Pooh, though there will be a sequence with Eeyore losing his tail and another based on a story from The House at Pooh Corner, where Pooh and his friends search for a creature called a "Backson", which is actually Christopher Robin's misspelling of the phrase "Back soon".
